Lots To Do: Stitches

Well, Lots To Do's Stitches challenge this week is right up my alley!

I began hand sewing when I was about 8 years old. I made doll and Barbie clothes with scraps of fabric and absolutely no knowledge of what I was doing. Even so, the things I created weren't half bad and are still holding up to this day. When I was about 10 my Great Aunt gave me her antique peddle-foot Singer sewing machine so that I could learn to machine sew. I still made doll clothes but also started sewing for myself. At 13, my Grandmother gave my a brand new electric Brother sewing machine complete with decorative stitches and buttonholes. I have been sewing ever since!
Even though I know the challenge wasn't necessarily about sewing that is where my heart took me. This is the first piece I have ever created just for myself. I used papers I love and things that mean something to me personally. For instance, "Sew like the wind" is from the movie Three Amigos and it's something my husband always says to me when I am sewing. I hope you enjoy!

  3. What a beautiful array of images and stamps you have, Otter...all pertaining to sewing. This is gorgeous. I love to sew so this was such an interesting and beautifully laid out card. Love it. Thank you for visiting my blog so I could follow you home and join your followers list. I hope you will join me at mine as well. I also loved your magic carpet, I missed you on that one. 5. I love that this is such a personal piece and that you incorporated that sentiment that means so much to you. It's just lovely. Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog.

  6. What a lovely piece! It seems as though we both share similar memories. I, too, learned to sew on my grandmother's pedal Singer. And, I, too, sewed and sewed Barbie clothes - many of them by hand - and sold them to the neighborhood girls. **sigh** Thanks for a beautiful trip down memory lane and for your blog visit. Hugs, Terri
